Nine Photos from the Glorious City of Urfa Holiday

One of my favourite cities in Turkey is glorious Urfa. With a strong connection to Ibrahim, otherwise known as Abraham in the Old Testament, it is impossible to visit and not instantly fall in love with the sites, culture, and local traditions. Due to its location in Southeast Turkey, it hardly appears in any mainstream travel brochures, and most visitors arrive there on a tour or by independent travel. Read more about the city here or see the tour of  southeast Turkey that travels there.

The number one attractions for Christians and Muslims is Balikligol which is widely believed to be the location where Nemrod threw Ibrahim into the fire.
On the outskirts of the city are many cotton fields and locals use the traditional horse and cart to collect the cotton and sell it to manufacturers.
There are many places in Turkey, honoured for their vibrant and colourful sunsets. Urfa is one of them.
The castle of old Urfa is not really impressive but worth the climb for a stunning landscape view over the city.
The purple headscarf is a popular garment for both local men and women.
Eating out and drinking in Sanliurfa is not a grand affair. Explore the main street and discover local
The number one dish to try is the local Urfa kebab however be warned, the accompanying peppers are very hot indeed.
To understand the history of Urfa, explore the narrow back streets of the old town
